Cornwall Hill College from Pretoria once again sent their Prep girls' on a Hockey tour to KwaZulu-Natal in August. The group were accommodated at the Road Lodge Umhlanga Ridge for 5 nights. They had 2 training sessions at Riverside Hockey Club with a professional coach as well as played matches against Hillcrest Primary School, Our Lady of Fatima School and Reddam House Umhlanga. Sightseeing in Durban included free time at the beach, a visit to the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board and a full day at uShaka Marine World with a session at the snorkel lagoon. The group consisted of 14 girls and 2 staff members.
Epworth School sent their grade 10's, 11's and 12's on a art tour to Cape Town in August 2018. There were 8 girls and 2 staff members. They flew out from Durban on 16 August 2018 and returned on 19 August 2018. They visited a number of highly acclamied art galleries and museums in Cape Town which included the Irma Stern Museum, the Rupert Museum, the La Motte Museum, the Zeitz Museum of Comtemporary Art Africa (MOCAA), the Iziko South African National Gallery and the Goodman Gallery. They spent an afternoon at the Kirstenbosch Botantical Gardens where they had some time to draw as well as enjoy the view from the Tree Canopy Walkway. On their last day they spent the morning exploring the beautiful wonder that is Table Mountain.
Kingswood College from Grahamstown sent their 1st XI on a Cricket tour to Sri Lanka in August 2018. The tour began in Colombo where they spent 4 nights at The Pegasus Reef Hotel. The team played their first 3 matches against local clubs/schools as well as enjoyed some local sightseeing. They then headed to Kandy where they were accommodated for 4 nights at Suisse Hotel. En-route they enjoyed a visit to The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. As well as playing their next 3 matches against local clubs/schools they also enjoyed a Kandy city tour including Upper Lake District, Market Square, a Gem Lapidary and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. The tour ended off in Galle where they were accommodated at the Coral Sands Hotel for their final 2 nights. Here they will played their final 2 matches against local clubs/schools. Sightseeing in Galle included a visit to the Galle Dutch Fort, which is a UNESCO World heritage Site as well as a visit to a local turtle hatchery. The group ended off their tour with dinner at the infamous Cricket Club Cafe in Colombo before departing back to South Africa. The tour party consistsed of 14 boys, 2 staff members and 11 Supporters.
Merchiston Castle School from Scotland, in conjunction with Bundu Bashers Travel and Living With The Lions, travelled to South Africa in August 2018 with their 1st XV and U16A XV rugby teams. Their first port of call was Gauteng where they spent 3 nights at the Konka Adventure Camp. Their stay at Konka included training sessions, teambuilding activities and the first match of their tour vs a local school side. Before flying to Cape Town, they visited Sun City and the Apartheid Museum. Their time in Cape Town included matches vs Stellenbosch High School, Groenberg High School and Bishops Diocesan College. They spent time at the Goedgedacht Farm Trust interacting with the children and getting involved with the projects. Exciting sightseeing activities included the Cheetah Outreach Centre in Stellenbosch, Table Mountain, Robben Island and a visit to the Springbok Museum. The group ened their time in SA at Aquila Private Game Reserve before heading home.
Reddam House Umhlanga travelled to Gauteng on a Hockey tour from the 22 August - 25 August 2018. They toured with both the U13 boys and U13 girls Hockey teams. They played a fixture against Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge as well as participated in the Reddam House Waterfall and Reddam House Bedfordview Hockey Tournaments. Sightseeing included Avalanche and Gold Reef City. They travelled with 28 students and 3 accompanying staff.
